THE SELF STUDY COURSE
By: Frank Watts BSME, CCDM
Engineering Documentation Processes and Control
This course is offered in 3 formats (public, on-site
and self-study). This info focuses on the self-study format.
The self-study format provides you with the course materials,
a self study guide, a validation process and email interaction
with the course instructor. It is a low cost way to study the
material with Frank, at home or work on your own schedule.
It also allows for you to do advance study - ie: If you decide
to do an on-site (at your location) seminar for the next two
years, your enrollment fee will be deducted from the on-site
seminar fee.
Course Description
This course sets the stage for innovation in design and
manufacturing while providing numerous ideas for real process
and product cost reduction, thru-put time reduction and real
reduction in operating costs. Appreciate the potential reduction
of product release time while minimizing risk. Minimize the time
consuming debates over interchangeability and part number changing.
Reduce the release, change, bill of material and documentation
process costs while balancing the costly chaos of under control
against stifling the engineer's creativity by over control. Streamline
the CM processes before spending tons of money on new software
to get bad processes executed faster. Find out how to avoid having
a quarter of a million dollars of bad parts show up on the dock.
Since approximately two thirds of ISO requirements are document
control issues, this course will take you a giant step toward
ISO certification. Also learn why ISO certification is often
only the first step out of chaos. Discover effective ways of
reducing the number of changes and the cost of implementing changes.
Minimize change process time to avoid safety/liability exposure
while improving the quality of your changes. Eliminate multiplicity
- multiple release methods, multiple BOM data bases, multiple
BOM levels, multiple BOMs for similar products, multiple change
methods and multiple cross references. Learn how to establish
meaningful metrics on the CM processes for volume, time and process
quality and reporting that, in and of itself, will tend to improve
performance.
